Tor Books, an imprint of Tom Doherty Associates, LLC—the largest publisher of science fiction in the world—has announced a creative partnership with Bungie Studios, one of Microsoft Game Studios’ premiere first part game development studios, to publish three new Halo® novels.

TOR BOOKS TO EXPLORE THE HALO® UNIVERSE IN NOVELS

The first novel for Tor, Halo: Ghosts of Onyx, will be available November 2006, and will be written by Eric Nylund. Nylund authored two of the previous Halo® novels, Halo: The Fall of Reach and Halo: First Strike. Halo: Ghosts of Onyx will take readers deep into crucial events that unfold during the Halo and Halo 2 timelines, expanding the characters and story of the Halo Universe as fans eagerly await the arrival of Halo 3 in 2007.

”Halo has established itself as one of the finest science fiction universes to emerge from the video game industry,” says Tor editor Eric Raab. “The first three novels merely scratched the surface. The storyline that the folks at Bungie have created is phenomenal, and its characters are begging to be explored further in novels.”

At least two more novels will follow over the next few years, each exploring the game’s rich universe, characters and mythos.

"Eric Nylund’s characters and scenarios are much beloved by our fans, and it’s a
pleasure to be working with Eric once more, and with our new publishing partner, Tor
Books," said Harold Ryan, Studio Manager at Bungie Studios.

The original Halo: Combat Evolved game for the Xbox was released in 2001 and gained a massive following.  The sequel, Halo 2, released in 2004, has sold 7.4 million copies to date, making it the best selling game in Xbox history and the fastest selling video game ever.  It has garnered over 100 industry awards including numerous accolades for “Game of the Year.” Since then the franchise has developed to include novels, graphic novels, toys, and a motion picture currently in development with Academy Award-winning director Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh as executive producers.

“Halo is a huge property. There is buzz about Halo every day on the Web. We are thrilled to be partnered up with such a great franchise and to add more to the Halo storyline through our books,” said Elena Stokes, Tor’s Publicity Director.
